About

Syracuse Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent, and affordable homes in partnership with qualified low-income homebuyers.

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Syracuse Habitat for Humanity was incorporated in 1984 and our first house was completed in 1986. Since then, we have built or renovated over 80 homes.  Syracuse Habitat for Humanity “lends a hand up, not a hand out.”  Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Syracuse Habitat for Humanity homes are sold to partner families with an affordable mortgage based on income.  To ensure commitment, Syracuse Habitat for Humanity requires homeowners to invest 300 volunteer “sweat equity hours” in labor, as well as provide a $1,000.00 down payment. This allows people who would not otherwise qualify for a mortgage to become first-time homeowners.
